In honor of our dear friend and one of the best comedians of our time, Robert Schimmel, who died this weekend, we've updated our videos with all kinds of great clips from his performances at the Improv over the years.
Doug Benson, just today, released a new album through Comedy Central Records. It’s called Hypocritical Oaf. And it is filled with what you’d expect– stoned out ruminations on the mundane facets of life.
To celebrate the release of Oaf, his third album, Punchline Magazine’s Matthew Gill — become a fan of his on Facebook! — chatted with the man a few weeks ago at his management’s office. So, you should probably check that out right about now. Enjoy!
We’ve been following the bubbling rise of Whitney Cummings’ career for the last few years. An East Coast transplant living in Hollywood, she’s made a name for herself writing for the ultra popular Comedy Central roasts and then getting in front of the cameras for the first time at a roast last year, where she barbed icon Joan Rivers– and to rave reviews. She’s done it again, most recently at the roast of David Hasselhoff. And now, the world will soon be exposed to a Cummings’ relationship-heavy material in her one-hour comedy special Money Shot (Aug. 21 at 11:30 pm EST) on Comedy Central.
Add to that Emotional Ninja, her debut album, her presence as one of Chelsea Handler’s main comedian panelists on E!’s nightly chat show Chelsea Lately and her work behind the scenes and in front of the camera on Showtime’s Live Nude Comedy series and you’ve got… well, frankly you’ve got a comedian worthy of a fun and enlightening 10-minute video interview on Punchline Magazine.
Our own Matthew Gill (become a fan of his on Facebook) caught up with Whitney recently to chat about said special, her craft, her many photos of herself that adorn her walls and much more. Check it out and pass it on!
Legendary comedian Robert Schimmel, known for many HBO specials and most recently with turning his bout with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2000 into the book Cancer on $5 a Day (chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life, is in serious condition after a car accident last week in Arizona.
Schimmel's 19-year-old daughter was driving and had to swerve to avoid an accident, causing their car to roll onto it's side.
His daughter was hospitalized in stable condition. His 11-year-old son was released without any injuries.
A few months back, while performing at the Sarah Silverman & Friends show at Largo in Los Angeles, Todd Glass suffered a heart attack and had to be rushed to the hospital. Now after surgeries and rehab, a few of his comedy friends are teaming together to help raise money for his medical bills.
This Tuesday, August 31st, Sarah Silverman, David Spade, Adam Carolla and more will be performing at Largo, the very stage where Todd had the heart attack.
If you're in LA and love comedy, you should definitely make it to this one. You can get tickets here. They are $40.
Just before the finale of Last Comic Standing, Punchline Magazine’s Matthew Gill had a great chat with comedian Mike DeStefano, who landed in the final five of the NBC competition show. But honestly, his appearances on the show had nothing to do with us wanting to meet up with the man.
We’ve been quietly following his career for the last few years, mostly in New York, and were delighted when we heard Stand Up! Records would release his first album OK Karma. And the album doesn’t disappoint. It’s filled with everything you’d expect from the cringe-worthy comic: ruminations on our too-fragile society, rants about our evolving language and simply put, raw, honest emotion. We highly recommend you pick up a copy. Just click the image below the video.
For now, you should probably watch the video, though. Enjoy!
When instant legend, flight attendant Steven Slater cursed out his passengers, grabbed a couple of beers and hopped down the emergency slide of his JetBlue plane, the first place people looked to find pictures or info on him was MySpace.
So, it was only natural that MySpace would invite Steven to come down and help bring his profile into this generation, dumping "Tom" and getting rid of those wonderful glitter graphics we all love.
With only a few weeks left until the highly anticipated sixth season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia premieres on FX, the media onslaught just keeps on rolling. This time, they've gone and auto-tuned a glorious new trailer.
Color us yellow with excitement. (Does that even make sense?)
She's still a force to be reckoned with and on Saturday, Betty White walked away her sixth Emmy. This one for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for hosting Saturday Night Live. Her episode also won for variety direction and makeup.
Big congrats go out to her on her triumphant victory and complete takeover of pop culture this year. How can you not love you some Betty White? Seriously...
Don't accuse Conan O'Brien of just laying around spending his money in his "time off" not legally permitted to be funny on television. In addition to his nationwide tour, he has recorded two albums that will be released this month.
The first is a rockabilly album entitled, "Conan O’Brien Live at Third Man" which includes a duet with White Stripes front man Jack White.
The second album, "And They Call Me Mad?" will be a spoken word album. The A-side will be Conan's take on the legend of Frankenstein. (Awesome!). The B-side features an interview with Jack White.
And all this is leading up to his new, as of yet, untitled show on TBS in the fall. Can't wait to see what else this madman has up his sleeve.
Funny or Die has been providing the internet with hilarious clips for a few years since they burst on the scene with The Landlord. Today, they've ventured into the realm of full length short film with, "The Big Dog."
It's written by and stars our friend Charlie Sanders and also features the
legendary Bob Odenkirk and Rich Sommer from Mad Men.
Synopsis reads:
One man (Charlie Sanders) sets out to make the most amazing pizza in
hopes of impressing his boss, the regional manager (Bob Odenkirk).
Will "The Big Dog" win him the love and respect of his "Famous Andy's"
coworkers, or will it drive him insane?
In a time when even a video that is three minutes feel long, this one breezes along and is definitely worth your time. Great creepy silly fun. Enjoy..
If you're like us, you've been jamming the Bed Intruder song 24/7 since the Gregory Brothers over at Auto-Tune the News released the opus to the masses. Well, for the first time in the history of the internet, a group who made some ridiculous videos is attempting the jump to big boy TV. Well, maybe not the first..
Wired.com caught up with the Gregory Brothers, one of which is a woman, in a great interview covering topics ranging from the "Double Rainbow" to the legendary Antoine Dodson.
With the news that "The Hangover" director Todd Phillips has secured the rights to produce a biographical film on the late comedian, John Belushi, Hollywood's wheels have started spinning on who should play the legend.
